Cathy Lemons
Black Crow
Squeeze Tone/VizzTone VT CL01

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Cathy Lemons has been performing regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 25 years. She honed her skills with Anson Funderburgh, played with Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Tommy Castro, Ron Thompson, Kid Andersen, Steve Freund and a host of others. In other words, Lemons has performed with the best of the best and is going strong. With a voice that has the touch of velvet she gets her point across with passion and raw emotional power. The band is tight, the added presence of special guests Doug James, Kid Andersen and Volker Strifler supplying their special touches here and there like the cherry on the already sweet ice-cream sundae. Six of the disc’s ten tunes were written by Lemons and show her extraordinary talents as a songwriter. Blues, R&B, Memphis soul, funk and a touch of gospel blend seamlessly for a sound that is powerful, yet soothing on the ear and absolutely delightful. There is a beauty and grace in Cathy Lemons that reaches far deeper than the surface but, don’t let her appearance fool you, this woman, young and beautiful as she might be has the ability to hurt you without even trying. The blues has a history of loves lost and found and Cathy Lemons knows the score, perhaps better than most in some respects. This woman has earned everything she’s got, and earned it legitimately. This is a woman who could steal your heart in an instant. One thing is certain…once you hear her, you will be a fan for life. This is music with a timeless quality that will have all the hitting power twenty years down the road that it does today. In this day and age when so much of what crosses my desk is some strange blues/rock combination, too often more rock than blues, this disc is refreshing as a glass of cold mountain spring water. This one is a keeper…a purchase you will not regret. – Bill Wilson
